How to Read Myfxbook Results

Gain vs absolute gain, drawdown, profit factor, verified track record and trading privileges — how to read Myfxbook and ShowMyTrades statistics before you copy or buy.

Myfxbook and ShowMyTrades are the standard way to prove trading results in forex. They connect to an account and publish its statistics independently. But a verified page can still mislead if you only look at the headline percentage. Here is how to read one properly.

Key takeaways
  • Check verification first: track record and trading privileges on a real account.
  • Gain is time-weighted and ignores deposits; absolute gain compares profit with money deposited.
  • Equity drawdown matters more than the headline gain.
  • A 90%+ win rate with losses many times bigger than wins is a classic martingale signature.
  • Look for 6–12 months of history, hundreds of trades and mixed monthly results.
  • Compare balance and equity curves to spot losses held open.

Start with verification

BadgeWhat it confirmsWhy it matters
Track record verifiedThe statistics come from the real account historyResults were not typed in manually
Trading privileges verifiedThe owner provided a password that can tradeThe account belongs to the person showing it
Real vs demoType of accountDemo results ignore real execution and psychology

A page without verification is just a chart. Also check the start date and whether the account is still active — a great curve that stopped updating six months ago tells you nothing about today.

Gain vs absolute gain

This is the most misunderstood part of Myfxbook. Gain is a time-weighted return that removes the effect of deposits and withdrawals — it shows how the strategy performed. Absolute gain compares net profit with deposits — it shows how much money the owner actually made relative to what was put in.

ExampleDeposit $1,000 → +50% → $1,500 · Deposit $10,000 more → −10% → $10,350
Gain ≈ +35% (strategy) · Absolute gain ≈ −5.9% (money)

A large gap between the two numbers is a signal to look at the deposit history: did performance change after more capital arrived?

Drawdown: the number that matters most

Drawdown measures the largest fall from a peak. Look for the maximum drawdown on equity, not just on balance, because floating losses on open trades are real risk even if they are later recovered. Compare it with the gain: 40% gain with 8% drawdown is a very different strategy from 40% gain with 45% drawdown.

Rule of thumb

Expect future drawdowns to be deeper than the historical maximum. If the past drawdown already makes you uncomfortable, the strategy is too aggressive for you.

Advanced statistics to check

Average win vs average lossBalanced with win rateLoss many times bigger than win

Reading the charts

  • Balance vs equity: if equity regularly dives far below balance, losses are being held open — a sign of grid or martingale.
  • Lot size history: lots growing after losses indicate martingale; lots growing with the balance indicate normal compounding.
  • Symbols and sessions: make sure the trading matches what is being sold — a "gold EA" should trade gold.

Red flags

  1. No verification, or only "track record" without trading privileges for an account sold as real.
  2. Very short history with extreme gains.
  3. Huge difference between gain and absolute gain without explanation.
  4. Many abandoned accounts by the same provider — only the lucky ones are shown.
  5. Equity drawdown hidden behind a smooth balance curve.

Example: comparing two accounts

StatisticAccount AAccount B
Gain+180%+42%
Period4 months18 months
Max drawdown61%11%
Win rate93%54%
Profit factor1.21.7
Trades410620
Average loss vs average win9× larger1.3× larger

Account A looks more impressive, but every warning sign is there: a short history, a drawdown larger than half the account, a very high win rate with losses nine times bigger than wins. Account B earns less per month but shows a controlled, repeatable process. For copying or buying, B is the account worth considering.

Reading the monthly table

The monthly returns table shows consistency. Look for mixed results with small losing months, not a column of identical gains. Identical returns month after month often come from strategies that hold losses open. Also check what happened in volatile periods for your instrument — a gold strategy that survived several strong trends has been tested in a way a calm three-month history never was.

Five-minute Myfxbook checklist

  1. Verification: track record and trading privileges, real account.
  2. History: at least 6–12 months and hundreds of trades.
  3. Drawdown: equity drawdown you could tolerate twice over.
  4. Risk profile: no growing lots after losses, no deep equity dips.
  5. Consistency: mixed monthly results, behaviour matches the description.

Monitoring your own account

Myfxbook and ShowMyTrades are not only for checking others. Connecting your own account gives you independent statistics, an honest drawdown figure and a public track record you can share. On the chart itself, a tool like WONNFX iSTATS shows the key numbers live while you trade.

Myfxbook vs ShowMyTrades

Both services verify accounts and publish statistics; ShowMyTrades also offers embeddable widgets that many providers place on their websites. The logic for reading them is the same: verification first, then drawdown, then consistency, and only then the gain.

Questions to ask a provider about their Myfxbook

A serious provider answers these without hesitation: Is this the only account running the strategy, or one of several? Why was money deposited or withdrawn on specific dates? What is the risk per trade, and has it changed since the start? What was the worst period and what happened in it? Vague answers, or a refusal to share the investor password for a "real" account, tell you as much as the statistics themselves.

Frequently asked questions

Gain is a time-weighted return that excludes deposits and withdrawals; absolute gain compares net profit with the total amount deposited.
Myfxbook has confirmed that the statistics come from the real account history rather than manually entered data.
It depends on the return and your tolerance. Many investors prefer maximum drawdowns below 20–30% with a return-to-drawdown ratio above 2.
Verified statistics are hard to fake, but providers can still show only their best accounts or demo accounts. Check verification badges, account type and history length.
They are separate services with a similar purpose: independently verified trading statistics and shareable performance widgets.
It gives read-only access to the account in MetaTrader, so you can see open positions, history and lot sizes in real time without being able to trade.
At least 6–12 months with hundreds of trades. Longer is better, especially if it includes volatile market periods.
Because it includes floating losses on open trades. A strategy can show a small balance drawdown while holding very large open losses.
